DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Reporting to Manager of Staffing Resource Team, the successful candidate will be responsible for personal patient care, vital signs, physical assessment, administration of medications, monitoring IV's, monitoring telemetry, setting up medical equipment as appropriate and other duties as assigned.
* The RPN will participate as a member of the Float Pool, Multidisciplinary Team and the Nursing Team at the Oshawa and Whitby sites on Healthy Aging program units.
* As an individual practitioner, the nurse will maintain competence and professionalism relevant to current practice.
* The nurse will be responsible for maintaining the health record according to hospital policy, procedure and standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing);
* Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited community college;
* Current B.C.L.S. certificate;
* Recent medical-surgical experience and evidence of recent related continuing education;
* Coronary Care I course (Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation) required OR must enrol within 6 months of starting and complete within 18 months (cost reimbursement provided upon proof of completion);
* Demonstrated self-motivation for continuing education in patient assessment, education, leadership, and clinical specialties;
* Ability to adapt to change in patient care assignments and hospital sites;
* Ability to lift, turn, transfer patients with mechanical lifts;
* Skills in patient education and knowledge sharing about expected outcomes and care;
* Strong organizational and prioritization skills, especially in stressful situations;
* Ability to perform essential duties of the position;
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills;
* Commitment to customer service with patients, families, staff, and community;
* Understanding of and commitment to safety programs and participation in related education;

* Must have a satisfactory performance record.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
* Terms in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.
* Successful external applicants must provide a recent satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector.
