Ultra Maritime has an exciting opportunity for an obsolescence manager to contribute and lead obsolescence work packages for some of Ultra’s leading support projects. In this role you can be hybrid working, with the home site being our Loudwater or Greenford locations. The role falls within the Support Engineering Function, reporting to the In‑Service Support functional manager.
In this role you will specialise in Maritime Defence projects, ranging from tens of £k to several £M. We provide the successful engineer the opportunity to grow and develop their skills across a wide range of projects. You will be comfortable sharing workloads with others and able to work closely with the wider team to achieve team goals.

In this role you join a component management team to provide management and maintenance of the component database and mitigate obsolescence and compliance issues.
Ideally you will be familiar with the defence industry or have demonstrable skills in Obsolescence Management. The ideal candidate will have a background in component engineering.
Key Responsibilities As An Obsolescence Manager
* Working with product line support functions to support their component and obsolescence management activities, including obsolescence identification, monitoring across the product line, and supporting mitigation/resolution activities.
* Leading obsolescence work packages and coordinating cross‑functional inputs to ensure timely delivery.
* Management of the ERP database (with respect to lifecycle and obsolescence data) and providing support to its engineering users.
* Carrying out all activities in accordance with appropriate engineering processes and procedures.
* Monitoring obsolescence across assigned product lines and producing regular obsolescence reports to keep customers informed.
* Playing a key role in delivering the assigned product line’s obsolescence management strategy, ensuring proactive lifecycle risk management.
* Assisting in component selection to meet specific customer requirements (and relevant standards), with consideration of lifecycle status and long‑term availability.
* Keeping abreast of current legislation (and upcoming changes), ensuring it is adhered to within your own work and instructing/reviewing others to ensure they meet the requirements.
* Responsible for providing planning and estimation input to Project Managers at the kick‑off of new projects, particularly in relation to obsolescence risk.
* Freedom to take on the responsibility to update/amend processes/procedures followed by the team as changes to legislation, lifecycle risks or cost/time improvement opportunities are identified.
* Identifying and supporting other departments in the resolution of qualification, compliance, safety and obsolescence‑related issues.
* Leading and supporting component and obsolescence risk identification and mitigation activities for the assigned product line.
* Coaching and mentoring more junior Engineers in obsolescence best practice.
* Liaising with both internal departments and external suppliers regarding lifecycle status, last‑time buys and alternative parts to assist with obsolescence resolution strategies.
* Demonstrable experience in leading work packages and working closely within a cross‑functional team environment.
Skills, Qualification And Experience As An Obsolescence Manager
* HNC/HND or Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electronics/Mechanical or a relevant subject.
* Good knowledge/understanding of component legislation, materials safety standards and obsolescence management principles.
* Experience of the whole product lifecycle within a defence or aviation environment, including proactive obsolescence management.
* Knowledge of Component Engineering and Obsolescence Management best practices, methodologies, processes and tools.
* Familiarity with one or more PMRP tools (IFS desirable) and/or SQL database experience.
* Will require the ability to obtain SC clearance.

Security Requirements
This role requires you to undergo Baseline Personnel Security Standard Check (BPSS) as a minimum and some roles will require further national security vetting checks. In line with Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years. Some vacancies may require full Security Clearance which can require further evidence to be provided.
