1) Exercise of general professional duties
A teacher who is not a principal shall carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require:
* (a) if employed as a teacher in a school under the reasonable direction of the principal;
* (b) if employed by a board on terms under which he/she is not assigned to any one school, under the reasonable direction of that board and of the principal of any school where he/she may be required to work.
2) Exercise of particular duties
Teachers shall perform, in accordance with directions, such particular duties as may be reasonably assigned by the principal or the employing authority, depending on their employment terms.
Responsibilities
1. Planning
2. Planning and preparing courses and lessons;
3. Teaching pupils according to their educational needs, including setting and marking work;
4. Assessing, recording, and reporting on pupils' development and progress.

2. Promoting the progress and well-being of pupils;
3. Providing advice and guidance on educational, social, and career matters;
4. Making records and reports on pupils’ personal and social needs;
5. Communicating with parents and external bodies;
6. Participating in meetings related to these duties.
1. Assessment/Reporting
2. Providing assessments, reports, and references on pupils, respecting confidentiality.
1. Staff Development
2. Participating in staff development schemes;
3. Reviewing and developing teaching methods and programmes;
4. Advising on course development and assessment methods.
1. Discipline/Health and Safety
2. Maintaining good order and safeguarding pupils’ health and safety;
3. Participating in curriculum and pastoral meetings.
1. Public Examinations
2. Preparing pupils for exams, assessing, recording, and supervising during exams.
1. Management and Administration
2. Contributing to staff appointments and development;
3. Managing or coordinating other teachers’ work;
4. Participating in curriculum, pastoral, and organizational activities;
5. Managing support staff and resources;
6. Attending assemblies and supervising pupils.
1. Working Hours and Days
2. Available for 195 days/year, with up to 190 days involving classroom teaching;
3. Perform duties as specified by the Principal or employing authority;
4. Teaching hours limited to 25 hours/week in primary or special schools, 23.5 hours in secondary schools;
5. Breaks of at least 30 minutes are required between 12 noon and 2 pm, with variations for nursery settings;

2. Supervising and teaching pupils in the absence of their regular teacher, subject to enrolment size and prior arrangements.

Essential Criteria
Qualifications: Recognized teaching qualification; honours degree (2:2 or higher) in French.
Experience: At least 1 year of teaching French at Key Stage 3 and 4; use of diverse teaching strategies; digital media proficiency.
Registration: Must be registered with GTCNI before appointment.
Additional Criteria (for interview)
Knowledge of NI Curriculum, Safeguarding, SEND; IT skills; teaching and classroom management skills; ability to promote an inclusive environment; alignment with school ethos.
Desirable Criteria
Higher degree (2:1 or above); 3+ years of French teaching experience; experience teaching A level French; supporting pupils with diverse needs; extracurricular involvement.
