About The King Edmund School

The King Edmund School

Vaughan Close, Rochford

Essex

SS4 1TL

United Kingdom

The King Edmund School is a co-educational comprehensive school for students aged 11 to 19. KES, as it is better known to staff and students, is an Ofsted rated 'Good' single academy trust in Rochford, Essex, which serves a geographically and socially diverse area.

This year marks an exciting chapter for KES, with a state-of-the-art new building and new Headteacher, Ms Jo Ingate. Phase one of a multi-million-pound project to renovate the school, part of the Department of Education's Rebuilding Schools for the Future initiative, is now open. The new two-storey building features 17 general classrooms, Art and Technical rooms, as well as new office space, meeting rooms, and a modern school hall, providing state-of-the-art facilities for students to learn in. Phase two begins this year and will redevelop the remainder of the school site over the next few years.

Our new Headteacher, Ms Ingate, shares her vision for KES: "I want our school to be the school of choice for our community and one of the most remarkable schools in Essex - delivering excellence for every student, every day, in the classroom, on the pitch, in the studios, and on the stage, through leadership, community, kindness, ambition, and achievement."

We Dream. We Believe. We Achieve.

Our values are at the heart of our ambition to raise aspirations and achievement for every child. They align with Ofsted's expectation that schools develop character, broaden horizons, and prepare students for life and work. In our last Ofsted report in 2024, we were awarded 'Good' and our values and ethos were clearly recognised in the findings.

Dream We inspire students to think big - not only about their future careers, but about the kind of people they want to become and the mark they want to make on the world. We want them to explore passions, discover talents, and set ambitious goals in every area of life. Our careers programme, enrichment opportunities, employer encounters, and guidance from Year 7 onwards open eyes to every possibility - from Oxbridge and international study to performing on stage, leading in sport, creating art, innovating in science, or starting a business.

Believe We help students build self-confidence and a strong sense of responsibility through our PSHE curriculum, leadership opportunities, personal development activities, and clear routines. We want every child to believe in their ability to succeed with the right effort, support, and motivation - at home and at school.

Achieve We focus relentlessly on turning ambition into reality through high standards in lessons, strong exam results, and timely support when it's needed most. This ensures dreams and self-belief lead to qualifications, opportunities, and choices that shape their adult lives.

We provide exceptional pastoral care and SEND provision through dedicated teams, who are committed to helping students achieve their best results. With a traditional approach to uniform, behaviour, and work, we maintain high standards while also prioritizing strong support for students and actively involving parents in these aspects of school life.

Sixth Form students have their own block with a common room, canteen and IT Suite. Students have the choice of studying A levels, Level 2 and 3 vocational courses, as well as a T level in Education and Early Years.
