The Respiratory and Pharmacy departments at North Bristol NHS Trust have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and passionate Pharmacy Technician to join the Respiratory pharmacy team. NBT has secured investment from NHS England to deliver NICE TAGs associated with respiratory medicine, and we aim to deliver these drugs to patients safely and effectively, improving patient experience and reducing health inequalities.
This exciting post will give the successful candidate an excellent opportunity to utilise and build on their existing pharmacy knowledge and skills to become an integral member of the respiratory multidisciplinary team. The postholder will work alongside the Interstitial Lung Disease Specialist Pharmacists to implement novel monitoring pathways for patients on high-risk antifibrotic and immunosuppressive medications. The role will require the successful candidate to utilise clinical prioritisation, and the candidate will be supported in obtaining this qualification if not already held (band 5 to 6 progression on completion). The post will require the candidate to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable them to work closely with the established multidisciplinary team which includes doctors, pharmacists, nurses, physiotherapists, physiologists, clinical psychologists and speech and language therapists to deliver outstanding services. They will have a supportive network around them and many opportunities to learn and develop.
Main duties of the job
* To support provision of pharmacy operational elements to the interstitial lung disease (ILD) service in conjunction with the specialist respiratory pharmacists.
* To provide technical support to clinical elements of the service including medicines counselling and utilisation of clinical prioritisation to assist with monitoring of high-risk medications.
* To lead on development of robust, cost effective and time efficient systems for delivering homecare to the interstitial lung disease patient cohort.
* To ensure cost effective supply and use of medications within the interstitial lung diseases service and compliance with local and national guidelines.
* To develop key performance indicators to monitor, audit and evaluate the effectiveness of the Pharmacy interstitial lung disease service, to identify service developments and work with the clinical team to operationalise.

Education/Training/Qualifications
Essential criteria
* NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services and/or BTEC National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences (or approved equivalent)
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a practicing hospital pharmacy technician
* Completed Pharmacy Workforce Development South Dispensing Accuracy Scheme and accreditation as a pharmacy checking technician (or approved equivalent)
* Completed Pharmacy Workforce Development South accreditation as a Medicines Management/Medicines Optimisation Technician or approved equivalent. Unit 1.1 Manage Patient Medication Requirements, Unit 2.1 Medicines Reconciliation and Unit 2.2 Discharge Facilitation
* Has completed Pharmacy Workforce Development South Unit 3 Clinical Prioritisation or Enhanced Clinical Practice for Pharmacy Technicians (or equivalent), or is willing to undertake as soon as possible
Desirable criteria
* Leadership training ILM Level 3 or equivalent

* Appropriate post-qualification experience in hospital pharmacy

* Ability to demonstrate ongoing competence as both checking and medicines optimisation technician
* Management/supervisory skills. Ability to manage workload of others
* Ability to communicate effectively with a range of healthcare professionals and patients/carers
* Proactive approach to application of knowledge gained to pharmaceutical practice
* Demonstrates continuing professional development and knowledge of respiratory medicine
* Planning and delivery of education and training to a range of staff groups and patients/carers
* Experience of using pharmacy stock control and ordering systems. Good working knowledge of standard PC software such as Microsoft Office

* Experience of analysis of data and production of reports
* Experience of audit and quality systems
* Knowledge of relevant national legislation and standards relating to medicines management. Experience of developing, implementing and reviewing medicines management policies, procedures and guidelines
