Job Overview
This is a fixed‑term/secondment posting for 12 months to cover maternity leave. The role is for a Band 5 Registered Children’s Nurse to join the Children's Unit on a temporary basis.
You must obtain permission from your current line manager before applying.
The Children's Unit consists of 19 inpatient beds, including 1 High Dependency bed, 3 Enhanced Care beds, 6 Assessment unit beds, 6 medical/surgical day‑case beds and 2 Oncology beds.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties
* Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence‑based nursing care.
* Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and other agencies.
* Assist in the management and organisation of the clinical area.
* Participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.

* English and/or Welsh language skills are required; Welsh speaker is desirable.

Qualifications
* Registered Children’s Nurse (Essential).
* Evidence of further study (Desirable).
Experience
* Recent experience of acute children’s nursing (Essential).
* Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team/with other agencies (Essential).
Skills
* Ability to assess needs of the child, plan, implement and evaluate care efficiently and effectively under the direction of Nurse in Charge (Essential).
* Ability to communicate information to team members, parents and relatives, both written and verbal (Essential).
* Willingness to develop clinical skills (Essential).
* Understanding of Clinical Governance (Desirable).
* Ability to prioritise own workload and seek assistance when appropriate (Desirable).
* Welsh speaker (Desirable).
Knowledge
* Basic knowledge of nursing care of children and young people (Essential).
* Understanding of Safeguarding policy and procedures (Essential).
* Understanding of POVA and Mental Capacity Act (Desirable).
