Highly Specialist Neurological Physiotherapist

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Highly Specialist Physiotherapist to work as part of our community neurological rehabilitation service based at Colchester General Hospital and working within the surrounding North East Essex community.

This is a fixed term post to cover a secondment with an end date of 31 March 2027. There is a possibility of an extension beyond this for a further 6 months.

We are an established and respected multi-disciplinary outpatient and community team providing long-term management for people with neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons disease, Motor Neuron disease and traumatic brain injury. We also provide vestibular rehabilitation service.

Due to the community working nature of the role (working in clinics in Harwich and Clacton and home visits) a car owner and driver is essential.


Main duties of the job

You will be working alongside other Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Clinical Psychologists, a Neuro Nurse Specialist and Rehabilitation Assistants to lead and develop services.

Experience in the management of all neurological conditions is required and specialist skills and knowledge in working with people with MND and Parkinsons Disease, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and Cortico-basal Syndrome (CBS) is desired.

We work closely with other agencies including the voluntary sector to provide person centred care.

You will be an excellent communicator with proven knowledge, leadership skills, and experience of working with people with neurological conditions and their families. We are looking for someone with the passion to promote and develop the service.

Person Specification


Experience

* Proven Band 7 level experience of working in neurological out‑patient and community settings
* Evidence of continued professional development
* Specialist knowledge and experience of assessment and management of neurological conditions
* A basic awareness of vestibular & balance dysfunction and assessment, with ambition to increase these knowledge & skills
* Previous experience of formal presentations to multi professional groups
* Experience of research
* Robust understanding of all aspects of Clinical Governance including previous experience of quality issues, audit and risk management


Qualifications

* Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy
* HCPC Registration
* Working at Masters Level as demonstrated by ongoing CPD
* Post registration training in neurological physiotherapy
* Commitment to advanced clinical and professional development
* Recognised post graduate qualification e.g. MSc, Non-medical prescribing
* Membership of Special Interest Group e.g.: ACPIN, ACPIVR

* Ability to cope with daily exposure to patients suffering from chronic dizziness who may have high levels of anxiety, depression and may be aggressive
* Ability to comprehend and work within the Trusts policies including data protection, equal opportunities and Health and Safety to meet the differing needs of the patient kills. Proven clinical leadership ability. Confidence in teaching multi-disciplinary staff groups .

Salary

£49,387 to £56,515 a year pro rata
