South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated HART Education Manager to join the HART Training Team at Winchester & Eastleigh Resource Centre, on a permanent basis.
The Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) is a specialist capability within the ambulance service, extending paramedic care to patients within the inner cordon or hot zone. The aim is to increase survival rates and improve clinical outcomes by extending NHS care into hazardous environments, including large-scale incidents or routine situations.
HART Education Managers are expected to be proficient in the use of specialist protective clothing and incident management, with extensive training in these areas. Detailed criteria for the role are available in the Job Description and Person Specification.
Applicants should note that HART is a national and local capability, and staff may be required to work anywhere in the UK during large-scale incidents. Attendance at local and national exercises and residential training courses is mandatory.
Main duties of the job
The HART Education Manager will oversee HART education, training, and development, providing subject matter expertise as directed by the HART Training & Development Manager. Responsibilities include leadership, mentorship, and training across all key capability areas, supporting high standards and the advancement of HART practices.
Successful candidates will be integral to the HART Education Team and are expected to start as soon as possible. Shortlisted candidates will participate in an interview day, including a micro project related to HART education and planning, a question paper based on Ambulance command and control guidance, and must possess an in-date HART PCA and meet PPE weight restrictions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Support the HART Training & Development Manager in implementing the strategic plan
2. Assist in preparing the annual training budget and managing procurement of training resources
3. Deliver clinical and non-clinical education in various settings, ensuring compliance with policies and effective communication
4. Coordinate with operational managers and team leaders to support education and training delivery
5. Provide clinical practice advice and governance support
6. Lead and mentor HART staff, supporting practice development
7. Keep senior management informed of educational issues and manage a designated portfolio
8. Plan and manage your workload in line with training needs
9. Ensure compliance with recertification and training frequency targets
10. Document and support staff return to work and performance improvement plans
11. Ensure policies are followed and propose updates as needed
12. Foster a positive learning environment and ensure consistency in education delivery
13. Collaborate with NHS ECU and other HART units
14. Maintain systems for staff records and ensure accreditation standards are met
15. Build strong relationships across the Trust
16. Support dissemination of educational information and participate in review processes
17. Advise staff on training systems, records, and SOPs
18. Attend relevant meetings and participate in recruitment processes
19. Promote evidence-based practice and research participation
20. Contribute to training program development and delivery
21. Coordinate with external partners and venues for training
22. Support research projects and undertake operational shifts as needed
23. Deputise for the HTM when required and assist with administrative tasks
Person specification
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent experience
* Registration with HCPC or relevant professional body
* HART National Skills modules (1-4, ATV, Water Mod3, etc.)
* Level 3 or above in educational teaching
* Qualified instructor in HART skills
* IHCD Emergency Driving or equivalent
* Level 4 or above in educational teaching
* CAVA or equivalent assessing qualification
* Experience with Internal Quality Assurance (IQA)
