Service Designer - Health Sector
Salary: £40,000-£50,000 depending on experience
Design services that improve lives.
We're looking for a Service Designer to join Healthia and work on digital services across healthcare projects. You'll contribute to designing services at scale and help influence how people access and experience health services.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll work on service design projects from discovery to delivery within multidisciplinary teams, contributing to service blueprints that integrate with other services and supporting service managers and programme directors to develop design concepts. You'll analyse, synthesise and clearly communicate evidence, use research and data to develop design ideas, and map existing services via user journey maps.
You'll help build consensus around design approaches, present findings to stakeholders, and document design decisions and risks. You'll contribute to design sessions with teams, users and stakeholders, support workshops with clinical teams, and work across team and profession boundaries. You'll create storyboards and blueprints, prototype ideas, and adapt designs to changing requirements.
What We're Looking For
You need 4+ years' service design experience, preferably in health, care or public sector, with proven experience working on service design projects. Strong agile design practices and multidisciplinary teamwork are essential. Previous healthcare experience is desirable, along with understanding of healthcare pathways, clinical workflows, and health information governance.
You'll have expertise in service design methodologies including service blueprinting, user journey mapping, systems mapping, and co-design techniques. You'll understand accessibility standards, inclusive design principles, and Government service standards, with good prototyping skills. Strong stakeholder relationship management, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, good presentation skills, and experience contributing to consensus-building are required.
You'll work independently while knowing when to seek guidance, communicate the value of user-centred design, and contribute to decisions that help teams align to strategic objectives. You'll work effectively across disciplines and organisational boundaries, support productive workshops, and share knowledge to support team learning. You'll help balance user needs with organisational priorities and ensure designs meet accessibility regulations and ethical standards while maintaining design quality and documenting decisions.
You'll need to deliver outcomes within fixed time and budget constraints. This means making pragmatic decisions about scope, adapting your design approach when you can't do everything you'd ideally like to and ensuring projects remain successful for both clients and the business.
Working Arrangements
You'll work within multi-supplier and multidisciplinary teams. This requires navigating communications across partners while being mindful of commercial sensitivities.
This is a permanent contract with a 6 month probation period. Right to live and work in the UK required. We offer hybrid working so you can be based anywhere in the UK with visits to our Bristol studio approximately once every 6 weeks.
