Our Purpose: English Speaking Board wants all learners topossessthe oracy and English language skills they need to achieve their aspirations. We want to stretch the most able and support the least confident and realise the potential of all by closing the disadvantage gap.

The Trusteeteamaimsto havea mixof skills sets andexperiencefrom within education (state, academies, FE and Adult Education)andfrom Awarding Organisations. The current vacanciesare fortwo types ofTrustees: thosewitheducational experience(preferably FE and Adult Education)andthosewithAO experience.
GenericSelection criteria:
* Personal alignmentwith thepurposeandwillingness to act in the interests of the charity only
* Support the charitablepurposewhich isthe advancement of education, ensuring our activities provide public benefit
* A commitment to giveadvice and guidanceto reviewand shapethe ongoing strategy of the organisation, its risk, financial and audit activities
* Remainup to date on advice and guidance from the Charity Commissionby reading advice out of meeting time
* Attend 4 Trusteemeetings per year(held onSaturdaysastworemote meetings andtwoinLondonandor Liverpool) plus the preparation time and ad-hocemail dialogue throughout the year
* Occasionally attend major meetings, such ashigh-profileconference
Technical Information:
Trustees will need to complete an automatic disqualification declaration. Should any reasons for disqualification apply theywillneed to seek a waiver from the Charity Commission prior to taking up a position as a Trustee.
ESB is a Company limited by guarantee and not having a share capital. The Company has charitable status. For more information, please read our Memorandum and Articles of Association.
The number of members with which the Company proposes to be registered is 50 but the Board of Trustees may from time to time register an increase of members. The subscribers to the Memorandum of Association and such other persons qualified as hereinafter provided as the Board of Trustees shall admit to membership shall be members of the Company.
There are four categories of members namely: –
* Ordinary Members
* Life Members (Closed)
* Friend Members
* Honorary Members
* To act in accordance with law, the governing documents and the objects
* To act in the interests of the charity only
* To act with integrity
* To manage the charity’s resources properly
* To use reasonable skills and care working as a trustee, applying what knowledge and experience s/he has
* To declare and avoid conflicts of interest
* To act within powers
* To promote the success of the company in achieving its objects
* To exercise independent judgement
* To exercise reasonable care, skill and diligence
* Not to accept benefits from third parties
* To declare interests in proposed transactions or arrangements.
Our Trustees/Directors are not remunerated. The term of the Trusteeship is for four years with an extension of a further four-year term to enable continuity.
The operational functions of English Speaking Board (International) Ltd are delegated to the CEO who manages the activities of 16 Head Office staff and 80 contracted markers and assessors.
