Responsibilities
* Be an active member of the Board of Trustees, exercising responsibilities and functions as part of the governance team.
* Support and maintain good relations with staff, members, volunteers and other Trustees.
* Attend training sessions provided for the benefit of the Board of Trustees.
* Take on duties and assignments as required by the Board of Trustees; use judgement, knowledge, and experience to help the organisation make sound decisions.
* Maintain a strategic view of the organisation and support the Chief Executive in delivering the business plan and strategy.
* Direct enquiries regarding advice, support or advocacy to the staff team and ensure appropriate referrals.
* Lead at board level on financial matters: ensure proper accounts, review financial performance, develop policies for finance and investment, maintain robust financial controls, liaise with staff and with the independent examiner or auditor, and report on financial matters to the members.
* Ensure resources are applied to objectives and managed in accordance with the organisation’s governance framework and policies.
* Contribute actively to and regularly attend Board meetings and participate in subcommittees as needed.
What we are looking for
* Experience with charity accounting, budgeting, and/or income generation is preferred.
* Able to attend board meetings, contribute to subcommittees, and respond to urgent issues when needed.
* Lived experience is welcome.
What you will be doing
* Commit to the organisation and its work, act with integrity and accountability, and understand the legal duties of trusteeship.
* Devote the necessary time to duties as a trustee and member of the organisation.
* Ensure compliance with legal and financial requirements of the constitution, Memorandum and Articles of Association, and relevant legislation.
* Work with other trustees to formulate and review strategic aims and direction.
* Promote the organisation and act in its best interests; safeguard its name and values and strive for best practice and high standards.
* Contribute to strategic planning, envisage the organisation in relation to national and local policy context, and help develop the annual plan.
* Contribute strategic skills, interests, and contacts to promote the organisation to individuals, organisations, and a wider audience.
* Support the organisation’s activities in conjunction with the Chief Executive and ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
* Ensure resources are used to further the organisation’s objects and manage funds properly.
* Follow organisational policies and contribute to regular attendance and participation in Board meetings.
