Job Summary
The thrombolysis team at Broomfield are recruiting for two posts – a full time (37.5hrs) and part-time (31.5hrs) which would likely increase to a full time position in 2026. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Stroke Thrombolysis Nurse to join our specialist stroke team. In this exciting and highly rewarding role you will be at the heart of our acute stroke pathway, supporting the rapid assessment and treatment of patients who may benefit from thrombolysis and/or thrombectomy. You will work closely with the wider stroke multidisciplinary team to provide expert, evidence‑based care – helping to ensure that every patient receives the right treatment, at the right time. As a Stroke Thrombolysis Nurse, you’ll coordinate emergency stroke care, from arrival through to post‑thrombolysis monitoring and ongoing support, using advanced clinical judgement, critical thinking and strong communication skills in a fast‑paced environment. You will also be heavily involved in the TIA pathway to ensure time‑critical reviews and prevent life‑changing strokes. This role is ideal for a nurse who thrives under pressure, values teamwork and is committed to improving outcomes for stroke patients.
Main duties of the job
* Rapid assessment to identify early signs and symptoms of stroke
* Using the NIH Stroke Scale
* Performing neurological assessments
* Facilitating the stroke pathway for imaging
* Assisting and helping determine eligibility for thrombolytic therapy or thrombectomy
* Monitoring stroke patients
* Administering medications
* Timely documentation of assessments
* Facilitating transfer to the Acute Stroke Unit
* Facilitating TIA pathway including booking patients in
* Actively taking part in audit, including Stroke Sentinel National Audit Programme
* Review patients within the hospital on the stroke pathway

Key responsibilities
Lead and coordinate the Acute Clinical Stroke Pathway, working in close conjunction with the stroke medical team, Stroke Unit and Emergency Department. Ensure delivery of a consistently high standard of care to meet patient needs as per the MSE and National Stroke Standards. Support and guide nursing teams to identify and manage clinical needs of stroke and TIA patients within the acute setting. Participate in development of acute and rehabilitation stroke nursing, and support research activities including identification of patients suitable for trials.
