The Vale of Glamorgan is welcoming applications for the post of Democratic Services and Scrutiny Officer-Digital Specialist, within the Legal and Democratic Service. This is an excellent opportunity to put down roots in an Authority that has a proven track record for making a difference and excellent performance. The Service has a wide range of statutory duties and responsibilities. Its primary role is to provide everyone in the Vale of Glamorgan with good governance advice and support to allow for robust decision making and policy development. The role entails working to enable the Democratic Services in maximising digital tools and technologies, including supporting the wider Service area through regular tasks, being responsible for managing the Service areas software and hardware, improving how we interface with a range of stakeholders through digital platforms, and supporting process improvement through digital technologies.
You will be collaborating across the breadth of the Council, with a range of stakeholders including elected Members, officers from a range of areas, wider partners and the residents of Vale of Glamorgan, in supporting the Council in discharging its statutory responsibilities, and delivering its new Corporate Plan, Vale 2030. This is an exciting time to join the team as we are undergoing a period of significant long-term transformation to support us in “Being the Best Council We Can Be”, including looking at ways of working such as the use of digital innovation and technology, how we function including reviewing existing Committee arrangements, and how we can work better with others such as elected Members and members of the public, improving public participation and how we involve more people in decision making.

About The Role
Pay Details: Grade 8, SCP 26 - 30, £36,124 - £39,513, £18.72 - £20.48ph
Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 hours Mon to Fri (standard office hours) – There will also be a requirement to support evening work on an ad hoc basis.
Main Place of Work: Civic offices
About You
You will be an individual enthusiastic about the opportunities provided by digital technologies and interested in enabling change, with a curiosity about how the Council functions and operates. You will be an effective communicator, with an ability to collaborate and involve a range of stakeholders in becoming a more digital Democratic Services area.
Examples of duties include:
* To assist in the effective operation of the democratic and decision-making processes of the Council and its associated functions. To assist Elected Members in their representational role. From time to time provide related support for committees, partnerships and other collaborative arrangements.
* To support Democratic Services in utilising a range of digital tools and technologies required to undertake its functions, whilst also identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
* To contribute to the effective operation and continued development of the Democratic and Scrutiny Services Section.
* To assist in the provision of advice and support to Elected Members and to Directorates to ensure that the Council’s democratic and decision-making processes are adhered to in accordance with statutory requirements and the Council’s Constitution.
