Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) is a large teaching Trust in North East London, providing outstanding healthcare to the local community and specialising in stroke, renal, neurosciences, cancer and trauma care.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Corporate Quality and Safety Team for a Consultant Geriatrician to support the Trusts patient safety agenda, focusing on incident management, risk and compliance, clinical audit and legal services.
Main duties of the role
* Lead a high-quality process for investigating and identifying learning from patient safety incidents across the organisation.
* Work with Clinical Group Representatives to identify learning and changes in practice that need to occur to prevent or reduce the likelihood of reoccurrence of similar incidents and improve overall safety and quality of care.
* Act as an investigator and collaborate with subject matter experts and clinical colleagues, escalating identified risks to the corporate Quality and Safety Team.
* Manage day-to-day learning responses, ensuring PSIRF investigation guidance is followed consistently and that learning responses are completed and published in a timely manner.
Person specification
Education / Qualifications
* Registered Consultant Geriatrician.
* Completed Levels 1-4 of the National Patient Safety Syllabus (or equivalent).
Skills / Abilities
* Excellent communication with all levels of staff.
* Strong analytical and facilitation skills.
* Ability to use electronic information databases such as EPR, CareFlow, EPRO, Cyberlab.
Experience / Knowledge
* Experience in clinical governance and patient safety incident investigations.
* Understanding of the NHS patient safety strategy and PSIRF methodology.
* Experience with incident investigation processes and reporting.
Other requirements
* All new staff appointed at the Trust are subject to a probationary period.
* All salaries are inclusive of standard allowances such as the High Cost Area allowance for staff on Agenda for Change contracts.
* Trust ID verification of essential documents is required.
