Investment Director - Investment Portfolio Management Based: Edinburgh or Glasgow The Scottish National Investment Bank is seeking an experienced Investment Director - Investment Portfolio Management to provide strategic leadership in the active management of the Bank’s patient capital investment portfolio. Reporting to the Executive Director – Investment Portfolio Management, this is a senior leadership role within the Portfolio Management function, with responsibility for shaping and delivering best-in-class post-investment stewardship across a diverse portfolio of equity and debt investments, with a focus on housing. You will play a central role in ensuring the Bank’s investments deliver long-term financial performance alongside measurable mission impact for Scotland, working closely with colleagues across Investments, Impact, Risk, Finance and Operations. Key Responsibilities · Lead the continued development and deployment of the Bank’s investment portfolio management approach, in conjunction with the Executive Director. · Provide strategic oversight of a diverse portfolio of equity and debt investments, aligned to the Bank’s missions. · Manage the Bank’s equity investments, including attending boards as an Investor Board NED or Observer, building effective relationships with management teams, and ensuring robust financial and mission reporting. · Manage the Bank’s debt investments, monitoring performance against financial and non-financial covenants and maintaining close engagement with investee management teams. · Lead portfolio-level performance monitoring and reporting, providing clear and insightful updates to the Executive Director and Executive Team. · Work closely with the Impact team to ensure mission impacts are clearly defined, tracked and reported in line with investment documentation. · Collaborate with Investment colleagues to ensure investment structures and documentation support effective post-deal management. · Act as the primary relationship lead for a portfolio of investment clients, ensuring all contractual and reporting requirements are met. · Partner with Investment Operations to oversee fund flows, including drawdowns, repayments, dividends, fees and coupon payments. · Work with Investment Risk and Finance teams to manage underperforming investments and support recovery or exit strategies where required. · Contribute to the planning and execution of exit strategies across the portfolio. Key Skills and Experience · Significant experience in investment origination, post-deal management or asset management, including leadership responsibility. · Experience managing complex portfolios of equity and debt investments, ideally across multiple sectors. · Sound understanding of financial, operational and market risks, and the ability to identify and mitigate risks within existing investments. · Experience as an Investor Board member, NED or Board Observer. · A proven ability to manage senior relationships, including investee executives, co-investors and external advisers. · A clear understanding of exit planning and execution. · Excellent communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality written reports and present confidently to senior stakeholders. · A degree qualification (preferred), with relevant professional qualifications desirable. · Alignment with the Bank’s missions and values, and a desire to deliver long-term positive outcomes for Scotland.
