Responsibilities

* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
* Develop strategy for our sectors and produce the tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
* Respond to incidents, be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.


Qualifications and Experience

* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of the work area for the role (e.g., combustion plants, waste incineration, refineries, control measures for emissions to air).
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.


The Energy & COMAH Team

Our technical experts define standards for the energy sectors, providing strategic direction, tools in support of regulation, guidance and training to deliver new duties, and environmental best practice. In the E&B Directorate we use evidence, expertise and innovation to enhance delivery, influence policy, and secure resources.

The role is a fixed‑term position, up to 2 years, for a person with experience of working in or regulating energy sectors. The vacancy closes at the end of October.
