A leading law firm is currently seeking a Tax Assistant to join their established Private Client Tax team. The team, based in Edinburgh, currently comprises a Senior Manager and two Tax Assistants, working with a portfolio of high net worth individuals, private clients, trusts, charities, and estates. \nThe successful candidate can be based in Edinburgh or Glasgow with 50% hybrid working available.\n\nThe Role\n\nPreparation of tax returns for individuals, trusts, charities, and estates.\n\nAdvising clients on tax returns, claims, elections, and liabilities.\n\nLiaising with clients to gather necessary information and arrange timely payment of taxes.\n\nSubmitting tax returns and payments to HMRC within statutory deadlines.\n\nManaging straightforward HMRC enquiries and assisting clients with settlements and refunds.\n\nTechnical Skills and Experience\n\nRecent experience preparing and submitting tax returns for individuals, trusts, charities, and estates.\n\nKnowledge of tax compliance requirements and relevant legislation.\n\nCompetence using tax software and HMRC online services.\n\nStrong client communication skills, both written and verbal.\n\nAbility to proactively gather required information and seek guidance where necessary.\n\nFocused on delivering solutions that meet client needs.\n\nBusiness and Work Management\n\nWorks collaboratively to meet deadlines and budgets.\n\nComplies with firm policies, financial procedures, and regulatory obligations.\n\nKeeps clients and colleagues informed of relevant tax developments.\n\nContributes to improving processes and working practices.\n\nPrepares effectively for client and colleague meetings (both virtual and in-person).\n\nUtilises internal information systems efficiently
