Join Archangel Autonomy and help transform machines into teammates.
At Archangel Autonomy, we're combining AI and robotics to protect our service personnel, critical infrastructure, and first responders in large, remote areas.
We're pushing the boundaries of technology by creating systems that don't just assist but become teammates in the field.
Our ground-breaking UXV navigation co-pilot system is designed to operate autonomously in some of the world's most challenging environments, even where GPS and navigation signals are unavailable. With applications in both civil and military use cases, our mission is to redefine how humans and machines collaborate.
We are now seeking a Field Deployment Engineer to join our team and help deliver this transformative technology.
About the Role
As a Field Deployment Engineer, you will be on the front lines of deploying, integrating, and supporting our AI-driven systems in the real world. Your work will ensure that our cutting-edge technology performs seamlessly for our customers in demanding environments.
You'll balance hands-on product testing during the development phase with external-facing support responsibilities as our systems are deployed globally.
What you'll do
* First responder: Provide on-site and remote support as the first responder for product installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance to ensure optimal customer satisfaction and seamless operations. Regardless of whether the issue falls within your area of expertise, you take the lead in addressing it and collaborate with the appropriate experts such as product development team to ensure it is resolved effectively.
* Hardware support: Support the assembly, integration, and testing of products both in-lab and in-field to maintain quality standards
* Documentation: Contribute to the creation, review, and maintenance of high-quality documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), user manuals, training material, records of field activities, technical issues, and solutions to improve support processes and knowledge-sharing.
* Engineering support: Contribute to creative problem solving to ensure seamless execution, optimise the success of deployed products, and enable integration across a diverse range of customer platforms, workflows, and technology stacks.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful candidate will be required to work from the office on a full-time basis (Monday to Friday).
What you bring
Must haves:
* A minimum of 1–2 years' experience working with Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV) systems, including hands-on involvement in the build, integration, and test of UAV platforms; experience with fixed-wing UAVs is highly desirable.

* Practical, hands-on experience with UAVs/drones, including flight controllers, sensors, autopilot systems, and payload integration.
* Familiarity with ArduPilot and/or PX4-based flight control systems and associated ground control software.
* Ability to travel 25–50%, both within the UK and internationally.
* A valid UK driving licence and the ability to obtain and maintain relevant UK security clearances.
Desirable:
* Proficiency in Linux troubleshooting, including command-line usage and basic scripting.
* Background in aerospace, defence, or service environments (e.g. RAF, Royal Navy, British Army).
* Familiarity with AI/ML-enabled navigation technologies, flight simulation software, or airborne camera systems.
* Programming experience in Python and C++.
* Experience using standard troubleshooting tools and electronic/mechanical diagnostic equipment.
* Experience as a model aircraft hobbyist, demonstrating practical understanding of fixed-wing aircraft construction, flight dynamics, or systems integration.
* A degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
What to expect in your day-to-day:
* Undertake flight test readiness activities, including UAV build, integration, and test activities in lab and field environments.
* Work closely with software engineering teams to prepare, configure, and deploy products for in-field testing and demonstrations.
* Provide first-line technical support, both on-site and remotely, for systems deployed with customers.
* Support manufacturing and production operations through direct involvement in product build and assembly activities, as required.
* Diagnose and resolve real-world operational challenges in collaboration with customers, contributing directly to mission-critical programmes.
* Support and evaluate product performance in complex operational environments where GPS or conventional navigation signals may be unavailable.
