Do you love the outdoors, enjoy hands-on work, and care about the environment? We're looking for a motivated Apprentice Gardener & Biodiversity Assistant to join our Estates and Facilities team.
This is a fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn, gaining a recognised horticultural qualification while helping to care for and develop our beautiful university grounds. From planting and pruning to biodiversity projects, you'll play a key role in keeping our campus green, welcoming, and sustainable.
What you'll do:
* Help maintain our gardens and green spaces – mowing, planting, pruning, and seasonal displays.
* Learn to use horticultural tools and machinery safely.
* Support sustainability and biodiversity initiatives across campus.
* Assist with leaf clearance, snow/ice management, and irrigation systems.
* Work alongside experienced colleagues while completing your apprenticeship training.
What we're looking for:
* A genuine interest in gardening, landscaping, and sustainability.
* Willingness and requirement to learn and work towards a Level 2 Horticulture qualification.
* Reliable and punctual.
* Good teamwork and communication skills.
* Level 1 qualification in English and Maths (e.g., GCSE at grade 2/E or Level 1 Functional Skills), or an equivalent or higher qualification.
* Able to complete all physical requirements of the role, such as lifting and moving soil, operating gardening tools, bending, kneeling, and working outdoors in various weather conditions with or without a reasonable adjustment.
This role offers the chance to develop practical skills, gain a qualification, and make a real difference to our campus environment.
