ABOUT THE POSITION
Structural Engineer – Building Design | Watertown, MA
In this position, you would serve an important role in planning, analysis, design, detailing of a diverse range of structural projects, as well as supporting other projects as needed. The ideal candidate should possess a “can-do” attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast paced, and fun environment.
Responsibilities
* Develops, organizes, and implements structural planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for structural projects
* Supports and mentors junior team members in the development of design plans, technical oversight, specifications, design calculations, load ratings, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, etc.
* Support a diverse range of structural projects across VHB’s footprint
Skills & Abilities
* Strong understanding of concepts, practices, and procedures in structural engineering
* Must possess strong technical skills with knowledge of structural systems and codes
* Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
* Demonstrates excellence in verbal presentations and technical writing
* Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
* Robust technical and critical thinking skills
* Proactive and self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail and quality
* Ability to lead and collaborate with a team of staff working remotely
* Enthusiasm to learn, seek out opportunities, and take responsibility
* Strong organizational and time management skills
* Proficiency in the use of structural engineering software Revit, AutoCAD, and/or Microstation
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required, master’s degree preferred (may substitute for 1 year of experience)
* 3-5 years of structural engineering experience required.
* EIT required.
* PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months preferred.
* Familiarity with Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build project delivery
