Job Summary
The post is a part-time 8PA Consultant Haematologist position at Dorset County Hospital. The post holder will join a team of 4 Consultants, work across outpatient and inpatient settings, and participate in Clinical Haematology on-call on a 1:5 basis. The department aims to move towards sub-specialisation with a specialist interest in Myeloma. Potential interview date: To be confirmed.
Responsibilities
* The post holder must have general haematological knowledge and be able to deal with all haematological problems, with the opportunity to subspecialise. The post holder should have an interest in clinical trials and will have the opportunity to work with the research department to set up a portfolio of clinical trials.
* Provide advice on management in conjunction with colleagues on all aspects pertaining to clinical haematology, including the advice and guidance email system for GPs.
* Assume full clinical responsibility for the care of patients admitted under arrangements within general medicine inpatient provision; ensure adequate arrangements for cover of leave and off-duty periods; internal cover when one consultant is away to be cross-covered by other consultants.
* Be available on-call by arrangement with consultant colleagues to ensure continuous consultant supervision with the haematology laboratory and to assist with clinical pathology problems out of hours within own competence.
* Be available in the laboratory outside normal hours when necessary on professional grounds, particularly in major accidents and catastrophes.

Qualifications and Requirements
Essential Education, Qualifications & Training
* Full GMC Registration; entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights.
* An appropriate higher surgical/medical qualification.
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview for appointment to substantive consultant role), CESR or European Community Rights.
Essential Experience & Knowledge
* Evidence of the ability to manage the demands of being a DGH-based consultant Haematologist.
* Experience of working within the NHS.
Essential Current Skills & Abilities
* Evidence of the clinical skills required to fulfil the specialty and sub-specialty elements of the job as in the job description and technical specification.
Essential Team Working and Service Development
* Evidence of recent collaborative working in a service development or improvement.
Essential Understanding and Participation in Clinical Governance
* Understanding the principles of Clinical Governance.
* Evidence of participation in recent relevant audit.
Essential Management Training, Organisational Skills and Strategic Vision
* Evidence of management experience and service change.
Teaching and Communication
* Evidence of teaching experience and abilities appropriate to the post; ability to present effectively to an audience and to communicate effectively.
