We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our Dementia Assessment Unit within Specialist Older People’s Inpatient Services.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support older adults living with dementia who require specialist assessment, treatment and therapeutic intervention in a supportive inpatient setting.
As a Band 5 Staff Nurse, you will deliver high‑quality, person‑centred nursing care, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to meet the complex physical, psychological and behavioural needs of patients. You will contribute to comprehensive assessments, individualised care planning and the delivery of therapeutic interventions that promote safety, dignity, independence and wellbeing. You will also play an important role in maintaining a positive ward environment and demonstrating best practice in dementia care.
About You
You are a Registered Nurse (MH or LD) with a genuine interest in dementia care and a commitment to providing compassionate, person‑centred support. You have strong communication skills, work well as part of a team and are able to use your initiative in a fast‑paced inpatient environment. You are motivated to develop your clinical skills and contribute to continual service improvement within Specialist Older People’s Services.

Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
Provide high‑quality, person‑centred care for people living with dementia, supporting behavioural needs & complex presentations. Contribute to risk assessment, decision‑making & individualised care planning within the multidisciplinary team. Take part in specialist assessments & deliver therapeutic interventions that promote safety, dignity & wellbeing.
Support learning & development on the ward by sharing good practice & supporting colleagues to build confidence in dementia care.
Team Contribution
Work collaboratively, offering support, guidance & positive role‑modelling. Participate in supervision & reflective practice, contributing to a supportive & inclusive team culture. Assist with the induction & support of new staff & students.
Care Delivery & Governance
Maintain high standards of personal care, nutrition, mobility & comfort. Undertake clinical observations, escalate concerns appropriately & contribute to safeguarding & risk management. Adhere to Trust policies, procedures & CQC standards.
End of Life Care
Provide compassionate, dignified end‑of‑life care & support families sensitively, contributing to personalised care plans.
Coordination, Quality & Flexibility
Support ward activity including admissions, discharges & accurate documentation. Communicate clearly with patients, families & professionals to ensure continuity of care. Maintain accurate records, support audits & quality improvement activity, & work flexibly to support safe patient care.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Registered Nursing Registration – RMN/ LD / RGN
2. Current Registration on part 3 or part 13 of NMC register.
Desirable criteria
3. ENB 998 or SLIP or other accredited teaching certificate. Accredited counselling course or equivalent.
4. Dementia related qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
5. Experience of being clinical adviser/supervisor to junior staff or students.
6. Worked within named nurse role to a client group.
Desirable criteria
7. Experience/demonstrates interest and passion of working with clients who have dementia.
8. Involvement in innovative nursing practice.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
9. Competent clinical skills i.e. Assessment, therapeutic interventions and management.
10. To demonstrate a good knowledge of the needs of service users with dementia
11. Supervising learners and other staff
12. Ability to work without direct supervision.
Desirable criteria
13. Second Language
14. Knowledge of Dementia’s and contributing CQC compliance
