JWR is delighted to be working with a well-established branded hotel in a popular Somerset city, seeking an experienced and commercially astute Financial Controller to lead the finance function of a busy, high-performing property.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on hotel finance professional to take full ownership of the on-site finance operation within a modern, fast-paced hotel environment. Working closely with the General Manager and departmental leaders, you will play a key role in driving commercial performance, financial control and operational efficiency across the business.

The Role
As Financial Controller, you will take full responsibility for the hotel's finance function, ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting and strong commercial support across all departments.
You will:
Lead and manage the day-to-day finance function of the hotel
Prepare monthly management accounts, including full balance sheet reconciliations
Produce accurate forecasting, budgeting and profit & loss analysis
Monitor departmental costs and identify opportunities to improve profitability
Conduct variance analysis and provide clear commercial insight to departmental heads
Oversee all finance processes including income audit, purchase ledger, sales ledger, payroll and purchasing
Ensure timely completion of all daily, weekly and monthly finance deadlines
Manage cash flow, hotel ledgers and minimise bad debt risk
Maintain strong financial controls, compliance and audit readiness
Manage supplier contracts, service agreements and financial risk
Partner closely with the General Manager to support commercial decision-making
Lead, develop and support the finance team while promoting financial best practice across the hotel
Requirements
The successful candidate will be a commercially minded hotel finance professional with strong technical ability and a hands-on approach.
You will have:
A minimum of 3 years' experience in hotel finance or audit
Previous experience at Assistant Financial Controller or Financial Controller level
Strong understanding of hotel accounting within a self-accounting property
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Excellent commercial awareness and financial acumen
Strong attention to detail with a proactive and analytical mindset
Confidence in influencing senior stakeholders and challenging where needed
Strong knowledge of controls, compliance and financial processes
Excellent communication and organisational skills
A flexible, hands-on approach with the ability to adapt in a fast-moving environment
