As a Traffic and Transportation Technician, you’ll work on projects that enhance road safety, improve traffic signals, and upgrade pedestrian and cycling facilities, as well as contribute to major schemes across the city. Your work will have a direct impact on how people move around Derby every day.
This is a career grade role, giving you the support and opportunities to develop your skills and progress to higher grades as your experience grows. As part of our friendly and collaborative Traffic Management team, you’ll enjoy flexible working, a diverse range of projects, and regular site visits that ensure no two days are the same. The Opportunity
In the role of Traffic and Transportation Technician, here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to make an impact:
• Supporting the design, management and implementation of traffic and transport projects, both in the city centre and within wards
• Helping to keep the city moving safely and efficiently through means such as traffic signals, signing & lining improvements, and traffic regulation orders
• Assisting with projects that improve accessibility, safety and sustainability
• Responding to day-to-day traffic related enquiries from residents, where necessary investigating issues and offering solutions
About You
To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have...
• An interest in traffic, transport, or civil engineering, with a willingness to learn and develop your skills
• Good problem-solving abilities and an eye for detail
• Strong communication skills, with the confidence to work with colleagues, contractors, and members of the public
• The ability to organise your workload and manage competing priorities
• A proactive and flexible approach, with enthusiasm to be part of a collaborative team
• IT skills, including experience using standard office software
