By creating and guiding our social media presence, you'll help us reach new listeners, build stronger connections with our community, and highlight Birmingham's diverse arts and culture scene. Brum Radio is run by volunteers, and social media is one of the most important ways we connect with audiences, artists and partners. With your input, our podcasts can reach further, engage more consistently, and showcase the city's independent voices to a much wider audience. You'll make a tangible difference by Increasing the visibility of Birmingham's artists, venues and events through regular posts and campaigns. Helping local communities discover cultural experiences they might not otherwise find. Strengthening Brum Radio's sustainability, by growing audiences and demonstrating impact to funders and partners. In short your skills will help Brum Radio thrive, ensuring Birmingham continues to have a vibrant, independent platform for culture, creativity and conversation.
What are we looking for?
Essential At least 3 years' experience creating and managing social media content (Instagram preferred, ideally for arts, culture, media, or non-profits). Strong copywriting skills and a sharp eye for visuals — you can choose or create images that stop the scroll and fit the brand. Confident with tools such as Canva, CapCut or equivalent for creating visual content and short-form video. Experience developing and managing a simple content calendar. Ability to analyse social media metrics and draw out what's working. Organised, reliable and able to work independently while staying aligned with the team. Passion for Birmingham's cultural life and enthusiasm for podcasts. Desirable (nice to have) Experience with TikTok or Threads. Knowledge of accessibility best practices (alt text, captions, credits). Comfort with light community management (replying to comments, DMs). Experience supporting campaign-style activity (takeovers, themed weeks, event coverage). Familiarity with UTM links or simple analytics tracking. Qualities Proactive and confident in suggesting ideas and strategies. Creative eye you know how to select or design visuals that enhance a story. Collaborative and open to feedback. Commitment to consistency and maintaining Brum Radio's on-brand tone.

DescriptionBrum Radio is looking for an experienced Social Media Volunteer to help shape and deliver the digital presence of our podcasts. This is a chance to use your skills to grow the reach of Birmingham's independent cultural voice. What you'll doYou'll take the lead in turning our podcasts into compelling social content. This includes developing a weekly content rhythm, creating posts, Reels and Stories from episodes, and ensuring campaigns feel consistent, on-brand and accessible. You'll have the freedom to propose new ideas, experiment with formats, and advise on strategy as we grow. Key deliverables A clear weekly plan of posts. Original, engaging content drawn from podcast episodes, including captions, images and video. Strategic input on how to maximise reach and engagement across Instagram (primary), with scope to explore TikTok/Threads. Light community management replying to comments and DMs, resharing partner content. Regular reporting of performance (reach, saves, clicks) to help the team understand impact. Occasional campaign work (e.g. festival takeovers, themed spotlights). Who you'll work withYou'll collaborate directly with Brum Radio's production team and podcast hosts. We're looking for someone confident enough to work independently but happy to share progress and ideas as part of a team. FlexibilityThis role can be shaped around your strengths. If you're strongest in strategy, you can help refine our approach and guide content planning. If you prefer hands-on content creation, you can focus there. We're open to how you make the most impact.
