Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a Widnes-based two-form entry primary school that is easily accessible via public transport as they require an experienced and qualified teaching assistant to support a small group of pupils across years 3 and 4 with additional learning needs. This is a long-term full-time contract required due to a member of the team going on maternity leave.
Your new role
As a teaching assistant with the school, you will be supporting a small group of pupils across years 3 and 4, playing a key role within the support team and support your pupils in all aspects of their education. The pupils you will be supporting a working at a year 2 level due to additional learning needs and have been struggling to access the curriculum. To help bring them up to speed, you will support them on a timetabled basis, offering 1:1 support within the main classroom and holding interventions in Maths and English on a small group basis within a separate classroom. You will take a positive approach as to promote their engagement and input during lessons, recognising key milestones and giving recognition to the pupils and class teachers. They can at times present behaviours that challenge, although not physical, they can be disruptive. To help prevent this, you will implement an array of positive behaviour strategies that you feel your pupils respond to, such as brain breaks, movement breaks, and reward charts.
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK, relevant referenceable classroom experience, and:
1. Experience planning and delivering interventions in key subjects
2. Experience handling challenging behaviours
3. An NVQ Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification is preferred (applications from Level 2 qualifications are being considered)
