Job summary
The successful candidate will join a well-established team within one of our Specialties: Respiratory, Care of the Older Person, or Endocrinology & Diabetes Consultants. The role involves progressing the service for residents across Blackpool, Fylde, and Wyre at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
The post holder will be employed by Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and will be responsible for approximately 15 acute hospital inpatients, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient clinics, and on-call duties for general medicine. Outpatient work is primarily conducted at Victoria Hospital, supporting 5 new and 10 follow-up patients, with clinic support from 1 junior or middle grade doctor.
The role includes advising colleagues on preventing unnecessary hospital admissions and facilitating timely discharges from secondary care.
Main duties of the job
Support the General Medical Wards as a Lead Clinician across the Integrated Medicine and Patient Flow Division. Opportunities exist to support within specialties such as Respiratory, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Care of the Older Person, or Infectious Diseases.

Our Division was formed in 2021 after a Trust restructure. We provide emergency medical care via our Emergency Department, Acute Medical Unit, and SDEC service. The division oversees inpatient and outpatient care across specialties including general medicine, diabetes and endocrinology, geriatrics, stroke medicine, respiratory medicine, rheumatology, and dermatology. We also operate Clifton Hospital in Lytham St Anne's and our Community Frailty Team. Currently, the division is undergoing transformation, including the construction of an Emergency Village at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, offering many opportunities to support service development within Integrated Medicine and Patient Flow.

Person Specification
Education and Qualification
* Essential: Full GMC registration, primary medical qualification, MRCP or equivalent.
* Desirable: MD, PhD, or relevant qualifications; Entry on the Specialist Register or within six months of CCT in general (internal) medicine; Management training.
Experience and Knowledge
* Essential: Broad exposure to General Medicine and related specialties.
* Desirable: Interest in other specialty areas.
Research / Audit / Publications
* Essential: Ability to supervise audit projects; understanding of research and audit principles; regular participation in audit meetings.
* Desirable: Recent research activity/publications; involvement in audits.
Skills and Ability
* Essential: Teamwork, leadership, organizational, teaching, and communication skills; effective English communication; awareness of NHS management issues; fitness for the role with reasonable adjustments.
