Exciting New Opportunity as our Medway Strategic Attendance Officer across the Maritime Academy Trust Medway Hub
Are you passionate about helping children and families overcome barriers to school attendance while influencing wider strategic improvements? Do you have the confidence, professionalism, and expertise to work compassionately with families and robustly with systems to drive change? If so, we’d love to hear from you.
We’re seeking a Strategic Attendance Officer to work across our Medway Hub schools. This cross-school role combines hands-on support with strategic advisory work. You’ll work directly with families and pupils, while guiding schools on policy, systems, and best practice in attendance and safeguarding.
About the Role
As Strategic Attendance Officer, you’ll play a key role in embedding a culture of excellent attendance across our five Medway schools. You’ll work closely with leadership, inclusion, and safeguarding teams to identify trends, tackle persistent absence, and promote inclusive engagement.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Monitoring and analysing attendance data to identify concerns
2. Advising on DfE and Ofsted-aligned best practice
3. Leading interventions including formal meetings, early help referrals, and home visits
4. Supporting emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA) and complex cases
5. Collaborating with external agencies and safeguarding professionals
6. Supporting legal processes where appropriate
7. Advising schools on policy development and evaluation
This is a unique opportunity to work both within school communities and as a strategic adviser. You’ll have the autonomy to shape inclusive practice and be a visible champion for attendance as a key driver of pupil wellbeing and achievement.
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
8. Has experience in education, inclusion or attendance advisory work
9. Understands the legal, safeguarding and relational aspects of school attendance
10. Brings empathy, curiosity, and professionalism to sensitive situations
11. Communicates confidently with families, staff and external agencies
12. Can work independently across multiple sites
13. Is skilled in using data to drive evidence-based decisions
14. Holds Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) training or equivalent
15. Has a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
