Overview
Jacobs is expanding its UK and Continental Europe team to support a range of high-profile projects across the Power & Energy portfolio, including high voltage AIS and GIS substations, transmission system assets, HVDC interconnectors, and energy storage systems. The Principal Cable System Engineer will lead the design delivery for Cable System Projects up to 400 kV from tendering through project handover.
Responsibilities
* Develop HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design and design review, estimation, site supervision and support as required.
* Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
* Prepare plant and equipment technical specifications, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports.
* Ensure correct and accurate interfaces with other engineering functions; attend and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
* Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, TMF and EMF calculations, sheath-induced voltage calculations and other related checks.
* Perform design reviews and verification of design.
* Ensure all project designs comply with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures.
* Assist with temporary works design schemes.
* Maintain good working relations with client/designer/team and supply chain.
* Ensure drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction; formally request missing information to avoid project delays.
* Ensure inspection and test plans are completed as required by the PMP/Specification, including dimension accuracy and quality checks.
Qualifications
* Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.
* Experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
* Extensive experience in a cable-related role supporting FEED and/or detailed design.
* Ability to manage and lead HV/EHV cable designs at all project stages.
* Experienced user of CYMCAP to support cable system design.
* Experience of working at EHV transmission voltages.
* Experience in the design of HV and EHV cable systems for both HVAC and HVDC systems.
