Our client are a well-established civil engineering contractor delivering a wide range of infrastructure, Civil Engineering and Groundworks projects across the South East and surrounding regions. Their portfolio includes highways, drainage, earthworks, utilities, and large-scale infrastructure works for both public and private sector clients. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit an experienced Commercial Manager with strong estimating experience to join our team. The Role The Commercial Manager will take responsibility for managing the commercial performance of multiple civil engineering projects while also supporting the tendering and estimating process. This is a key leadership role that bridges pre-construction and project delivery, ensuring projects are secured competitively and delivered profitably. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the commercial aspects of civil engineering projects from tender through to final account. Prepare, review, and manage project cost plans, budgets, and forecasts. Oversee the estimating process including reviewing tender documents, pricing works, and preparing submissions. Manage subcontractor procurement, negotiations, and contract administration. Monitor project financial performance and report on cost/value reconciliation. Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities. Lead negotiations with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers. Manage variations, claims, and final accounts. Work closely with project managers, engineers, and directors to ensure commercial success. Requirements Proven experience in a Commercial Manager or Senior Estimator role within civil engineering. Strong estimating experience with the ability to price civil engineering works. Good knowledge of civil engineering contracts (NEC, JCT or similar). Strong financial and commercial management skills. Excellent negotiation and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Proficient in estimating and commercial software packages.
