Clinical Fellow (Trust Grade Doctor) in GI/HPB Radiology
We are inviting applications to fill our (STR level) vacancies at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Department of GI Radiology.
There are 2 posts commencing September 2026 for a 12‑month contract.
Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a licence to practice by the intended start date.

Main duties of the job
The timetable/job plan will be based on 33.65 hours – 8.4 clinical sessions per week. Sessions will be based between the sites of St James University Hospital (SJUH) and Leeds General Infirmary (LGI). A further 4 hours/1 session per week is intended for private study, teaching preparation, audit and research.
Additionally, an alternate week evening general acute CT list will be incorporated into the fellowship timetable (2 hours plain time, 2 hours premium time = 2.35 hours per week total). There is no further on‑call commitment. The total hourly commitment per week is therefore 40 hours.
In addition, the successful applicant will provide a high‑quality gastrointestinal radiology service, working closely with the consultant radiologists in this speciality. The successful applicant will develop a specialist interest in aspects of gastrointestinal radiology, participate in the Radiology HST teaching programme, participate in departmental clinical research and audit, assist in the training and supervision of junior medical staff (radiological and other clinicians) and support the delivery of acute CT sessions as a senior radiologist.

The successful candidate will work closely with specialist registrars and consultants undertaking dedicated blocks in both hepatobiliary and hollow organ imaging, and can offer extensive exposure and teaching for a variety of imaging techniques including fluoroscopy, ultrasound, MRI and CT in both the acute and outpatient setting. There will also be the option to develop US and CT non‑vascular intervention techniques.

Participation in departmental research is encouraged and the post holder will be required to contribute to the departmental journal club and educational meetings. The fellow is expected to participate in the teaching and supervision of specialist registrars, sonographers and radiographic staff.
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* FRCR (Parts 1 and 2) or equivalent evidence of radiology training with at least 4.5 years in a UK recognised Radiology Training Scheme.
* The candidate should have or be within 6 months of obtaining their CCT in Clinical Radiology by the start of the post.
* MRCP, MRCS, or other postgraduate degree
Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills
* Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at intended start date
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (as required to complete Foundation competences) by intended start date
* Is up to date and fit to practise safely and is aware of own training needs.
* All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following, applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English or, academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) results showing a score of at least 7.5, to be achieved in a single sitting and within 24 months of the time of application. If applicants believe they have adequate communication skills, but do not have evidence in one of the above forms, they must provide alternative supporting evidence of language skills.
* Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice)
Clinical Experience and Career Progression
* At least 4.5 years experience in a recognised Radiology Training Scheme after full GMC registration or equivalent, and evidence of achievement of foundation competences, in line with GMC standards.

* Demonstrates knowledge of evidence-informed practice.
* Research and audit skills: Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements, e.g. degrees, prizes, awards, distinctions, publications, presentations, other achievements.
* Evidence of involvement in an audit project, a quality improvement project, formal research project or other activity which focuses on patient safety and clinical improvement.
* Demonstrates an interest in and commitment to the specialty beyond the mandatory curriculum teaching: Evidence of interest in, and experience of teaching.
* Evidence of feedback for teaching.
* Instructor status (or a recommendation for instructor status) in an advanced life support course (ALS, ATLS, EPLS, APLS) or equivalent course.
* Some higher radiological training.
