About The Role
We’re looking for a technically skilled and safety-focused Operations Engineer to join our Operations team. You’ll be the technical lead for Electrical and Instrumentation disciplines within your area, acting as a key point of escalation and ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient operations across our transmission assets.
What Youll Be Doing
* Provide technical leadership and coaching to operational teams
* Act as Authorising Engineer for multi-discipline permits to work
* Conduct competency assessments and workplace evaluations
* Lead defect resolution and prioritise maintenance interventions
* Ensure compliance with health, safety, and engineering standards
* Support design studies with technical input on safety, maintainability, and cost
* Participate in a 24/7 standby rota and act as Incident Controller during emergencies
About You
We’re looking for someone who has:
* Strong Electrical and/or Instrumentation engineering knowledge
* Experience working within a formal permit-to-work system
* Excellent project and financial management skills
* A deep commitment to personal and process safety
* Knowledge of gas transmission regulations and procedures
* Ability to build strong relationships across internal and external stakeholders
* High standards of integrity and professionalism
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. National Gas roles may be subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. Details are available at GOV.UK.
Key Requirements
* HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
* IOSH Managing Safely certification
* Valid UK driving licence
* Degree in a relevant engineering subject – desirable
* Time-served apprenticeship or recognised training scheme in Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics, or Control Systems
* BTEC National Certificate or equivalent (City & Guilds, NVQ/SVQ Level 3)
* Desirable Certifications (depending on discipline): Electrical: Compex EX01–04, C&G 2391, C&G 2377, BS7671 18th Edition; Instrumentation/DSEAR: Compex EX01–04, Cyber: EC 62443
