About the role:
As the Tax Manager, you will be responsible for managing the company’s tax compliance, with a primary focus on indirect tax (VAT). You will also provide support on other tax-related areas, assisting the Financial Controller and Finance Director with advisory, reporting, and strategic tax matters. This role is critical to ensuring that EG On The Move meets its tax obligations while identifying opportunities for efficiency and optimisation within the tax framework.
Key responsibilities:
1. Indirect Tax Compliance: Manage the preparation, review, and submission of VAT returns and other indirect tax filings, ensuring compliance with UK regulations.
2. Tax Advisory: Provide guidance to the business on indirect tax matters, advising on transactions and ensuring compliance with VAT legislation.
3. Tax Reporting: Oversee the accuracy of tax-related entries in financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting and regulatory standards.
4. Tax Audits and Queries: Act as the main point of contact for HMRC on indirect tax matters, managing audits and responding to queries efficiently.
5. Support on Other Taxes: Assist the Finance Director and Financial Controller with other tax areas, including corporate tax, employment taxes, and capital allowances.
6. Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to tax reporting and compliance processes, leveraging technology where appropriate.
7. Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with the Finance team, external advisors, and auditors to ensure seamless tax compliance and reporting.
8. Risk Management: Monitor and mitigate tax risks, ensuring the company remains compliant with changing regulations.
9. Training and Guidance: Provide training and support to internal teams on tax-related matters, raising awareness of key compliance areas.
10. Ad Hoc Tasks: Support the Financial Controller and Finance Director on tax projects and other related tasks as needed.

Essential:
1. Proven experience in a tax role, with significant exposure to indirect taxes (particularly VAT).
2. Strong technical knowledge of UK VAT legislation and compliance requirements.
3. Ability to interpret tax regulations and apply them effectively to business transactions.
4. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
5. Strong communication skills, capable of collaborating with stakeholders at all levels.
6. Proficiency in financial systems and tax reporting tools; experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is advantageous.
Good To Have:
1. Professional tax qualification (e.g., CTA) or accountancy qualification (e.g., ACCA, ACA, CIMA).
2. Experience in corporate tax and employment tax matters.
3. Knowledge of tax compliance for multi-site retail businesses.
