Job Overview
The Harrow Paediatric Occupational Therapy team is looking for a motivated, flexible and innovative therapist to work with children and young people in Harrow. This is a rotational role which rotates through a variety of community paediatric areas. It will allow you to develop your skills in pre-school, mainstream schools and special schools. We are a friendly, dynamic and innovative team passionate about supporting children, young people and families in Harrow.
We provide an established internal training programme and regular opportunities for external training. The service is based at Alexandra Avenue, with high levels of integration and collaboration between health, education and social care services.
Main Duties
* Gain broad experience in paediatrics through yearly rotations in pre-school, mainstream schools, secondary/special schools.
* Provide evidence-based, family-centred care, applying best practice guidelines to enable occupational participation.
* Contribute to departmental meetings, clinical audit/research and projects.
* Deliver training and clinical education to other professionals and parents/carers on paediatric OT.
* Supervise the work of PTAs and LSA’s, provide clinical education and training to physiotherapy students.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
* Communicate complex patient-related information effectively, ensuring collaborative working with multidisciplinary team members across health, education, social services and voluntary sector.
* Work with teaching staff, medical/nursing staff to coordinate care and Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
* Provide written advice for education and health care plans, describing the impact of child difficulties on learning environment.
* Support CYP, carers and families in decision making, demonstrating empathy and ensuring effective communication.
* Use interpreters where necessary and manage conflict across situations.
* Provide specialist clinical reports for CYP.
* Employ excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

* Excellent presentation skills, written and verbal (English).

Qualifications
* Recognised Occupational Therapy Degree Qualification.
* UK Health Professional Council Licence to Practice.
* Member of Royal College of Occupational Therapy.
* Evidence of completion of specialist short courses relevant to children with special needs/disability (e.g., splinting, neurology, seating).
Desirable Qualifications
* Member of the CYPF RCOT specialist section.
Experience
* Postgraduate experience in paediatrics, neurology, orthopaedics, social care.
* Writing clinical notes and reports.
* Managing own caseload.
* Teaching professionals/parents.
* Supporting assistants and OT students.
* Clinical audit experience.
Desirable Experience
* Working in the community.
* Working with children/young people and their families.
Skills and Knowledge
* Well-established knowledge of assessment tools and therapeutic interventions.
* Knowledge of specialist aids, equipment and seating systems.
* Understanding of roles of other healthcare professionals.

* Knowledge of clinical governance and audit.
Desirable Skills and Knowledge
* Occupational therapy in the education system.
