Overview
The John Taylor SCITT is an established training provider and a part of the John Taylor MAT. Based at John Taylor High School in Barton under Needwood, with partnerships with over 60 local schools and Multi-Academy Trusts. This is a fixed-term training year for trainee teachers, offering two-school placement, weekly mentors, and exposure to a range of age groups and settings.
Responsibilities
* Study an intensive training year with two different schools and weekly mentor meetings.
* Gain additional experience in a special school or a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU).
* Attend weekly training at the Training Centre, with subject- and phase-specific sessions delivered by in-house specialists and local school partners.
* Collaborate with local schools to receive high-quality, relevant training and support.
* Develop knowledge and practical teaching skills to progress toward Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Qualifications required
* Bachelor’s degree (required) — final year students may apply.
* GCSEs at Grade C/4 or equivalent in Maths and English; Science for Primary applications.
Subject routes/ Phases available
* Primary, English, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Modern Foreign Languages, Art & Design, Design & Technology, History, Geography, PE.
Salary, funding and courses
* Training bursaries/scholarships available up to £30,000 (tax free).
* Once qualified, starting salary at least £30,000.
* Course costs: £9,250 (1 year full-time) or £6,935 per year (2-year part-time), potentially funded through Student Finance England. Maintenance loan may be available.
Working hours
* Full-Time/Part-Time routes available.
* Fixed term September 2024 – July 2025.
