To be a fundamental part of the organisation and delivery of Electro-Convulsive Therapy (ECT) service to patients.
To monitor patients' physical health and identify early signs of deterioration.
To coordinate the booking of ECT treatment sessions in coordination with the patient and the members of the clinical team.
To monitor patients for adverse effects before, during and after receiving ECT treatment.
To provide medical interventions in an emergency including management of cardiac arrest, seizure and syncope. To be part of the team to deliver immediate life support to patients in the event of serious complications.
To follow established ECT protocols and clinical governance procedures.
To communicate effectively with the ECT Leads and other members of the team locally and other sites.
To feed into the multi-disciplinary meetings at ward level working in partnership with multi-disciplinary colleagues within mental health in-patient wards, community mental health, pathways and acute hospital and other care environments.
Demonstrate knowledge of the risks and benefits of ECT the procedure for the administration of ECT including pre-treatment preparations and procedure for patients requiring outpatient ECT.
Main duties of the job
To be an integral part of the delivery of ECT.
To coordinate referrals and booking of ECT.
To provide ongoing support to patients while receiving ECT.
To liaise with patient's community or inpatient teams to update treatment process and make entries on electronic patient records.
To proactively engage and work with patients to ensure that all treatment sessions are administered in a safe manner.
To proactively engage and work with other professionals within the ECT team, the community teams and ward staff to ensure safe and effective delivery of treatment.
To develop professional relationships with other members of the research team and staff in the neuroimaging facility and collaborative research sites.
To prioritise, monitor and administer own workload.
To provide supervision to staff within the department.
To work with the Royal College of Psychiatrists to ensure that standards for ECT are upheld.
To ensure robust governance arrangements are in place for the safe delivery of treatment
Support with the order of supplies for the ECT department.
To work with patients and carers to improve their experience of treatment.
* To provide education on ECT to other teams.

* Highly developed clinical reasoning skills and ability to conduct risk assessments
