Join to apply for the Pre Construction Director role at Wates Group.

We have a fantastic opportunity for an established Pre-Construction Director to join our Advanced Manufacturing Construction team on a national basis with a hub based in our Sunderland office.

As a Senior Business Lead in Wates Construction, this role provides the opportunity to shape, grow and develop the pre-construction strategy with the support of the newly formed leadership team. The role involves work-winning pre-construction activity from pre-bid through to successful conversion of the second stage, aligning with the business plan and governance to enable the business unit to achieve the sales budget. The successful candidate will also support business development to ensure future pipeline and participate in external networking. This is a pivotal role to grow our strategy, engage and motivate teams to achieve success through well-executed bids.

This role requires someone who can embrace the Wates Pre-Construction Transformation Programme and lead by example to upskill the team and drive continuous improvement in performance.


Responsibilities

* Develop and execute the pre-construction strategy in alignment with the business plan and governance.
* Lead work-winning activities from pre-bid through to bid conversion, ensuring quality and compliance.
* Manage and develop customer relationships to secure ongoing work and grow the pipeline.
* Collaborate with wider group and framework teams for effective stakeholder management.
* Support and upskill the team, driving continuous improvement and a strong bid culture.
* Respond to business and customer needs with resilience and adaptability.
* Drive bids on projects typically within 50-500m value.
* Deliver compelling and well-structured presentations.
* Promote a collaborative, high-performance team environment.


Qualifications and Experience

* Proven success in winning bids on projects in the 50-500m range.
* A portfolio evidencing successful bids and growing sales.
* Excellent value-added customer relationship management and stakeholder engagement.
* A detailed strategic approach from work winning to PCSA conversion.
* Strong leadership, coaching, and people development skills.
* Resilience and adaptability to meet business and customer needs.
