Head of Health & Safety
We are working exclusively with a prestigious distribution company who are seeking a Head of Health & Safety to join their team based in Oxfordshire.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to organisational wellbeing by proactively managing safety standards and fostering a culture of excellent safety awareness across all departments with a focus on their distribution activities.
Reporting into the CEO of Distribution and working alongside senior members of the team, some of the key Director of Health & Safety responsibilities include:
* Health & Safety Leadership - develop and implement their UK Distribution Health & Safety strategy aligned to business objectives and legal requirements.
* Compliance & Governance – work with the facilities manager to ensure compliance with all relevant UK Health & Safety legislation, codes of practice, and regulatory requirements. Maintain and develop policies, procedures, standards, and safe systems of work. Lead internal audits, inspections, and compliance reviews. Manage relationships with British Safety Council, enforcement agencies and auditors.
* Risk Management - lead the development and review of risk assessments, Safe Systems of Work and operational safety controls. Ensure robust management of high-risk activities. Drive continuous improvement in hazard identification and risk reduction.
* Incident Management - Oversee investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses. Ensure root cause analysis is completed effectively and corrective actions are implemented.
* Operational Support - work closely with Operations teams to ensure safety is embedded into day-to-day activities.
* Training & Development - develop and oversee health & safety training programmes across the business.
* Reporting & Performance - Develop meaningful health & safety KPIs and reporting metrics. Provide regular updates and reports to senior leadership teams.
Director of Health & Safety requirements include:
* NEBOSH Diploma (Part 1) or NVQ Level 4 in Health & Safety (or equivalent).
* Experience of forklifts and warehousing environment.
* Experience of Very Narrow Aisle trucks in a warehouse.
* Strong working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
* Strong investigation, risk assessment, and problem-solving capability.
* IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook).
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Approachable and collaborative communicator with excellent influencing skills.
Based on site in Oxfordshire 4 days a week and 1-day WFH.
Salary - £75,000 - £80,000 per annum, plus benefits and bonus.
