Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 3 Endoscopy HealthCare Assistant to join our supportive and friendly team at St. George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The role involves assisting with patient care in the Endoscopy unit, supporting nursing procedures, and ensuring a high quality service for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
* Excellent communication skills.
* Prior clinical experience within a healthcare service environment (endoscopy experience is an advantage but not essential).
* Ability to work effectively within a busy, dedicated team.
Responsibilities
* Under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse, carry out nursing procedures following verification of competency.
* Assist with the care and treatment of patients, including washing, oral care, escorting to toilet, and managing bed pans/commodes.
* Prepare items and manage dirty linen in accordance with procedure.
* Perform venepuncture, blood pressure recording, urine pregnancy testing, and height and weight recordings after appropriate training.
* Make verbal reports to senior nursing staff and provide written documentation as required.
* Ensure patients retain dignity and individuality, and participate in the treatment and rehabilitation of patients as needed.
* Provide direction and escort to visitors and patients around the endoscopy, clinic/ward, and other departments.
* Report any concerns about patient condition and follow up with registered staff.
* Safeguard patient property in line with Trust procedures.
* Maintain confidentiality in written and spoken communication.
* Comply with all Trust policies, especially regarding staff and patient safety.
* Assist with patient admission, procedures, recovery and discharge for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.
* Opportunities to work at other Endoscopy Unit sites, including Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton, and the Nelson Health Centre, South Wimbledon, after training.
