We are seeking
to appoint a new Research Assistant to support our growing programme in tumour immunology and liver cancer. As part of this role, you will be responsible for the provision of research support for our preclinical work in hepatocellular carcinoma, providing advice and guidance to research students where appropriate. You will contribute to the wider research by supporting day-to-day experimental work, including molecular biology, flow cytometry, and cell culture. You will be assisting in the development and maintenance of pre-clinical in vivo models of HCC and coordinating with the Biological Services Unit, working in compliance with ethical regulations.
Other responsibilities will include:
* Contributing to scientific reports and journal articles and presenting data/papers at conferences.
* Determining appropriate methodologies to test hypotheses and identifying suitable alternatives if technical problems arise.
* Managing laboratory administration, including stock control of consumables.
* Ensuring laboratory organization and adherence to health and safety protocols.
* Using specialist scientific equipment in a laboratory environment.
* Representing the research group at external meetings/seminars, either with other members or alone.
* Sharing research findings with colleagues in partner institutions and research groups.
It is essential that candidates hold a degree in a relevant biological science (e.g., immunology, molecular biology, cancer biology, biomedical sciences) and demonstrate specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes. Proven experience in standard wet laboratory techniques, including pipetting, PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, and cell culture, as well as familiarity with in vivo work, is required.
