Job Summary
Applications are invited for a 6‑month fixed term ophthalmology doctor at Kettering General Hospital. The post involves clinics at Kettering General and Nene Park, and the holder will be expected to take oncall duties in the evenings and weekends as first on call on a rota basis.
Responsibilities
* Assisting with general and oculoplastic clinics.
* Supporting the eye casualty service and on‑call service (one weekday including out‑of‑hours service and weekends).
* Regular clinical sessions in the outpatient department and peripheral clinics.
* Liaising with other departments on and off the KGH site at the request of consultant staff.
* One half‑day each week available for academic work, research and continuing education.
* Administrative duties including correspondence, results of investigations, histology and GP liaison.
* Participation in post‑graduate educational activities organised by the department and within the district as allowed.
* Deputising for absent colleagues as required.
Education and Training
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification (essential)
* GMC registration (essential)
* FRC Ophth or equivalent (desirable)
Knowledge and Experience
* Four years full‑time postgraduate training, or equivalent gained on a part‑time or flexible basis (essential)
* At least two years of speciality training programme in a relevant speciality or as a fixed‑term trainee (essential)
* Understanding of current clinical issues in ophthalmology (essential)
* Knowledge of UK health systems and practices (essential)
* Understanding of the need for clinical audit (essential)
* Experience with medical retina clinics including laser treatment (desirable)
