A respected and well-established specialist school is looking to recruit a dependable, proactive and practical Caretaker / Site Supervisor to join its premises team.
This is a hands-on and highly varied role suited to someone who takes genuine pride in maintaining a safe, secure and well-presented environment. Working closely with the Premises and Health & Safety Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running, maintenance and operational support of the school site.
This position would suit an experienced caretaker, facilities assistant, maintenance operative or site supervisor who enjoys problem-solving, working independently and being part of a supportive school community.
The Role Responsibilities will include:
Opening, locking and securing the school premises
Keyholder duties and responding to alarm call-outs
General maintenance, repairs and decorating
Monitoring health & safety across the site
Supervising cleaning standards and supporting cleaning teams
Carrying out routine premises and safety checks
Supporting heating, lighting and site systems
Maintaining outdoor areas and ensuring safe access during adverse weather
Setting up rooms and furniture for school activities and events
Supporting contractors, deliveries and waste management
Assisting with swimming pool maintenance checks following training
Supporting school transport operations and occasional minibus duties
Completing regular site inspections and reporting hazards or repairs
The role may also involve occasional evening work, alternate weekends and some flexibility during emergency situations or school events.
About You We are looking for someone who:
Has previous caretaking, maintenance or facilities experience
Is practical, organised and able to use their own initiative
Can work both independently and as part of a wider team
Takes pride in maintaining high standards
Has good communication and problem-solving skills
Is flexible, reliable and trustworthy
Understands the importance of safeguarding and health & safety procedures
A full UK driving licence is essential.
Experience within a school, education, healthcare or public sector environment would be advantageous, although not essential for the right candidate.
