Refrigeration Design Engineer Role Overview
This is a newly created Refrigeration Design Engineer role which will involve supporting existing refrigeration-based products while also designing and developing new products to expand the company's offering across multiple ranges. The position combines hands‑on engineering, system design, and product development within a multidisciplinary environment.
Refrigeration Design Engineer Hours, Pay and Benefits
* Salary: £40,000 – £45,000
* Hours: 37 per week, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm Monday–Thursday, 8:00 am – 1:00 pm Friday (full‑time, in‑office)
* Benefits: employer pension contribution of 6.5%, 26 days holiday plus bank holidays, 3 × salary life assurance, company bonus (first £3,000 tax‑free)

This role is commutable from Nottingham, Derby, Burton upon Trent, Coalville, Loughborough.
Key Experience Needed
* Experience in HVAC&R or thermofluid system design and development.
* Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, thermodynamics, and system performance.
* Knowledge of heat transfer and fluid flow principles in practical applications.
* Experience in product development or mechanical system design environments.
* Familiarity with relevant safety and regulatory compliance standards (e.g., PED, CE marking).
* Strong proficiency in 3D CAD modelling and engineering drawing creation.
* Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and cross‑functional collaboration effectively.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and develop refrigeration systems and related apparatus.
* Produce detailed 3D CAD models and fully dimensioned engineering drawings.
* Perform thermodynamic calculations and system simulations to support design decisions.
* Select appropriate components including compressors, heat exchangers, expansion devices, and refrigerants.
* Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations (e.g., PED, CE marking, safety requirements).
* Build and test prototypes, analysing system performance, efficiency, and reliability.
* Support manufacturing, procurement, and quality teams throughout the product lifecycle.
