Position: HSE Officer
Location: Dewsbury & Huddersfield
Hours: Monday - Thursday, 08:00 -17:00 with a 30 min lunch, Friday 08:00 - 13:00
Job Overview
The HSE Officer is responsible for the implementation, and continuous improvement of health, safety, and environmental programs within the organisation. This role ensures that the company complies with all relevant regulations, minimises environmental impact, and fosters a safe working environment for employees, contractors, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
* Implement the company’s health, safety, and environmental policies to ensure compliance with UK regulations
* Ensure that policies align with industry standards and best practices.
Regulatory Compliance
* Work with Site and Group HSE management to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Risk Assessment and Hazard Analysis
* Conduct regular risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential safety and environmental risks.
* Develop and recommend solutions to minimise or eliminate identified risks.
Training and Education
* Design and deliver health, safety, and environmental training programs for employees at all levels.
* Ensure that all personnel are properly trained in safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Accident and Incident Investigation
* Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and environmental incidents to determine root causes.
* Implement corrective actions and preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
Emergency Response Planning
* Review emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, first aid, and spill response.
* Ensure staff are trained and drills are conducted regularly.
Environmental Sustainability
* Implement the company’s environmental policies to control waste, emissions, and the environmental footprint of the organisation.
* Work on sustainability initiatives such as recycling, energy conservation, and waste management.
Safety Inspections and Audits
* Perform regular safety audits and inspections to ensure workplace compliance with HSE policies.
* Provide reports and track corrective actions for any identified deficiencies.
Reporting and Documentation
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of safety incidents, environmental compliance, and training activities.
* Report on HSE performance to senior management and regulatory authorities as required.
Promote Safety Culture
* Foster a strong culture of safety and environmental awareness throughout the organisation.
* Encourage employee participation in HSE initiatives and programs.
* Identify areas for improvement in safety practices, environmental impact, and regulatory compliance.
* Stay current on new safety and environmental laws, technologies, and best practices.
Skills and Qualifications
* NEBOSH Certificate
* Experience of working in an HSE role, preferably in a manufacturing, industrial, or construction environment.
* Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
* Proven ability to conduct risk assessments, investigations, and implement corrective actions.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage employees at all levels.
* Ability to develop and deliver effective training programs.
* Ability to lead and manage safety programs across multiple departments or sites.
Personal Attributes
* Ability to conduct site inspections, including walking around production facilities, outdoor environments, and potentially hazardous areas.
* Comfort with being on-site in a variety of working environments, including production floors and outdoor sites.
* Typically based in a manufacturing or industrial facility, with regular visits to various parts of the site, including warehouses, production lines, and storage areas.
* Very occasional travel to other sites, client locations, or industry conferences may be required
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with a focus on proactive safety and compliance management.
