Role: Corporate Tax Manager Location: Based in our Norwich or Ipswich office. Working hours : 37.5 hours per week with hybrid working and annualised hours available. Being part of the management team within our Business Tax Advisory team, providing specialist corporate tax compliance and management services to our clients. Working with colleagues within the team and wider firm to actively contribute to the growth of the corporate tax team whilst monitoring the quality of work across the firm, identifying new risks and opportunities and seeking to continually exceed client expectations. Whilst the role is primarily focused on the active management of a portfolio of clients, it is likely that there will be opportunities to get involved with tax advisory assignments, from time to time where there is a desire to do so. We also offer benefits that include: Private Medical cover and MediCash Employer pension contributions to 6% of gross basic pay Option to buy additional holiday Discounted gym membership Regular sports and social events Involvement in wellbeing initiatives Employee Assistance Programme Annualised hours and flexible working options More information on the role - main responsibilities: Technical The role is mainly focused on the management of the corporate tax compliance affairs of the firm’s clients with responsibility for an allocated portfolio of clients Identify areas of risk by undertaking research and analysis of tax legislation, tax cases and changes to HMRC guidance Respond to legislative changes in a timely fashion Responding to HMRC enquiries and informal approaches for information Undertake corporation tax compliance reviews to include the review of tax accounting and provisions to be provided to our audit team for inclusion in financial statements Contribute to the internal knowledge and learning of the Business Advisory team There is an opportunity for involvement in tax advisory work including some of the following: M&A tax advice including tax due diligence and/or tax structuring Company reorganisations, mergers and demergers Company purchases of own shares Compiling and/or reviewing Research & Development tax credit claims Cultural tax relief claims Capital allowances reviews General Meeting with clients in place of the partner to discuss their corporate tax affairs Ensuring engagement partners are aware of the current position regarding their clients’ corporation tax compliance affairs Involvement with and contributing to planning work across the team to ensure work is appropriately allocated and deadlines are met. Including statutory deadlines as well as internal deadlines set for the successful completion of audits in line with client expectations. Involvement in the development of members of the team. Developing the team to ensure long-term capability, utilising necessary leadership and management skills Embrace the Firm’s vision, mission and values and translate these into day-to-day actions to lead and develop others, acting as a role model to members of the team, promoting consistency with the Firm’s values Business development Actively seek out opportunities to develop and grow business within the corporate tax team, identifying opportunities to generate additional work within the portfolio Involvement in pricing and quoting for new work Maintain up-to-date understanding of clients’ businesses Maintain good working relationships with clients Awareness of the wide range of Larking Gowen services and ability to spot opportunities to potentially sell those services Active involvement in office marketing events, when appropriate, acting as an ‘ambassador’ of the Firm Task management Ensure the Firm carries out its professional duties properly with due regard to risk management, ethical and professional standards Work with less experienced colleagues to develop their specialist areas Consistently meet deadlines and understand the commercial implications of actions relating to productivity, recoverability, fee income and client service Management of work in progress to ensure timely billing, review of recoveries and identifying opportunities to improve productivity, efficiencies and increases in fees Training Attend relevant training courses as identified to maintain and develop both technical and personal skills and keep records for compliance with the firm’s CPD requirement Other Responsibilities: Adheres to the Firm’s risk management policies and procedures Undertakes other duties to meet the demands of the business Education and qualification ACA or ACCA or CTA (or equivalent) Experience Essential: Significant experience of working within a top 50 accountancy practice. Experience of supporting, coaching or mentoring colleagues Proven ability to adapt quickly to changing deadlines and priorities Ability to work flexibly as part of a team Ability to respond to risks in an appropriate fashion, delivering work that complies with risk management processes Good communication skills, including with colleagues, partners, other teams and with clients Desirable Experience working as part of a multi-disciplined team Undertaking firm-wide responsibilities Experience of the use of Alphatax software for tax compliance work, tax accounting, review and reporting
