Head of Human Resources
Location: Liverpool, based on site 5 days per week. With travel to other sites in the NW as and when.
Reporting to: Deputy CEO
Salary: up to £62,580 PA.
Hours: 35 hours per week.
Holidays: 31 days plus bank holidays. Increasing to 35 days plus bank holidays, after 5 years of service.
Education sector experience is essential
Role Purpose
The Head of Human Resources will lead the development and delivery of a high-quality, strategic HR service across the organisation. This role is responsible for shaping the people agenda, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives, and creating a positive, high-performing culture.
You will act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, driving initiatives across employee engagement, organisational development, workforce planning, and operational HR excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Develop and implement the organisation's people strategy aligned to overall business objectives
Advise senior leadership on all people-related matters, including organisational design, culture, and change
Lead on workforce planning to ensure the organisation has the capability and capacity to meet future needs
Operational HR Delivery
Oversee the delivery of a comprehensive HR service, including employee relations, recruitment, performance management, and payroll/HR systems (if applicable)
Ensure HR policies and procedures are compliant, up to date, and effectively implemented
Lead on complex employee relations cases and provide expert guidance to managers
Organisational Development & Culture
Drive employee engagement initiatives and promote a positive, inclusive workplace culture
Lead on learning and development strategies, including leadership development and succession planning
Support organisational change programmes, including restructures and transformation initiatives
Leadership & Team Management
Lead, develop, and mentor the HR team, ensuring high performance and continuous improvement
Foster a collaborative and customer-focused HR function
Build strong relationships across all levels of the organisation
Governance & Compliance
Ensure compliance with employment legislation and best practice
Provide HR metrics and insights to inform decision-making at Board level
Support governance requirements, including reporting and audit processes
Person Specification
Experience
Proven experience in a senior HR leadership role
Strong track record of developing and delivering people strategies
Experience of managing complex employee relations and organisational change
Experience of working at a strategic level with senior stakeholders
Knowledge & Skills
In-depth knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice
Strong leadership and influencing skills
Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational delivery
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Data-driven approach to HR decision-making
Qualifications
CIPD Level 7 (or equivalent) desirable
Degree-level education or equivalent experience
