Claims Handler - Public Liability
Location: Plymouth PL1, Ballard House (Hybrid – minimum 1 day in office per week)
Pay: £15.56 per hour
Hours: Monday - Friday, 37 hours per week
Start Date: 02/02/2026
Assignment: Temporary, approximately 6 months
Interview: In-person

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join a friendly, busy and dynamic insurance team responsible for managing claims submitted by members of the public or their legal representatives relating to personal injury and property damage.
About the Role
You will play a key part in the end‑to‑end handling of public liability claims. Your responsibilities will include:
Processing and investigating claims and making informed decisions on liability
Monitoring claims from initial receipt through to resolution
Liaising with internal Council service departments to gather and prepare evidence
Working closely with external solicitors, particularly where claims progress to litigation
Communicating complex, sensitive or contentious information clearly to a wide range of stakeholders, including the public, internal teams, legal representatives and external organisationsThis is a fast‑paced role that requires strong judgement, accuracy and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
About You
To succeed in this role, you should have:
Recent experience in an insurance or claims‑handling environment
A good working knowledge of Civil Procedure Rules and General Data Protection Regulations
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Confidence in managing challenging or sensitive conversations
Proficiency in PC‑based applications, including Microsoft Office
