We're seeking a talented Fabric Engineer to join our Facilities Management team at Cambridgeshire County Council. This is an exciting opportunity to work across a range of sites, ensuring our buildings remain safe, functional, and well‑maintained. As part of our collaborative team, you'll play a vital role in delivering high‑quality maintenance services whilst developing your skills in a supportive environment. What will you be responsible for? As a Fabric Engineer, you'll be working within the Facilities Management team, supporting them in maintaining building standards across our contract sites. Your day to day will include:
Responsibilities
* Conducting planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on building fabric elements including doors, windows, partitions, ceilings, flooring, and roofing
* Performing minor carpentry, basic plumbing, plastering, painting, and general handyman tasks to keep our buildings in excellent condition
* Completing statutory checks and fabric condition surveys, reporting findings accurately via our digital systems
* Acting as the first point of contact to make safe and repair issues, ensuring continuous operational availability
* Liaising with subcontractors and the contract team to ensure all work meets required health and safety standards
Qualifications & Requirements
* You have demonstrable experience in fabric repairs and maintenance, with relevant qualifications (City & Guilds or equivalent)
* You hold a clean driving licence and are comfortable working across multiple sites
* You're confident using digital systems and tablets to record work tasks and communicate effectively with your team
* You have excellent problem‑solving skills and can work collaboratively as part of a supportive team
* You're flexible, adaptable, and committed to delivering outstanding customer service whilst maintaining the highest safety standards
