Are you an SEN Teaching Assistant or Learning Support professional ready to take the next step into teaching?
We are recruiting a Functional Skills Tutor to deliver Maths and English to small groups of young people aged 16–24 who may be NEET or have SEN and EHCPs. Many learners face barriers to education, including low confidence or previous disengagement from school, so your role will be key in helping them rebuild confidence and achieve recognised qualifications.
Class sizes are intentionally small (typically 2–4 learners) so you can adapt your approach and provide the support each learner needs.
We have 2 x available roles:
1x One Year FTC (subject to extension) supporting NEET Learners – you will only be covering Havering for this post.
1 x Full Time Permanent position covering all delivery locations with 2 x days’ Work From Home (please see below)Delivery Locations
Teaching takes place across several sites during the week:
Monday: Bexley
Tuesday: Work from home (planning and admin)
Wednesday: Reading
Thursday: Work from home (planning and preparation)
Friday: Havering (Romford)Driving can be helpful but is not essential, as the Elizabeth Line provides a direct route to Reading.
The Role
You will deliver Functional Skills Maths and English (Entry Level 3 – Level 2) in supportive small-group sessions.
Your focus will include:
Supporting learners with SEN, EHCPs, or barriers to education
Creating engaging and accessible lessons
Helping young people build confidence and re-engage with learning
Monitoring learner progress and maintaining records
Working with the wider team to support progression into education, training or employmentTeaching sessions usually run between 9:30am – 2:00pm, with additional time for planning, learner support and administration.
