Optical Assistant Apprentice – Hassocks Eyecare
We are looking for a motivated and caring Optical Assistant Apprentice to join us at Hassocks Eyecare and help deliver outstanding patient care. In this role, you’ll learn every aspect of supporting our patients — from offering expert advice and understanding frame styles and fittings, to providing ongoing care that helps people feel confident, comfortable, and valued.
This position is perfect for someone who genuinely enjoys helping others and is interested in beginning a long-term career in optics. An interest in Maths is highly desirable, as it plays a key role in interpreting prescriptions, understanding lens measurements, and ensuring accuracy in patient care.
For the right person, this apprenticeship can be the first step toward an exciting future — with the opportunity to progress to a Dispensing Optician qualification once your apprenticeship is complete.

As an Optical Assistant Apprentice, you’ll work closely with a dedicated Mentor and professional training provider. You’ll learn about the optical industry, support clinicians throughout the patient journey, and get hands-on experience in everything from frame styling and lens recommendations to adjustments, fittings, and aftercare. You’ll develop strong product knowledge tailored to each patient’s visual and lifestyle needs, including how to support more complex prescriptions with the help of the wider team.
You’ll also take on day-to-day responsibilities as you grow in the role. These include greeting patients, learning how prescriptions are interpreted, offering personalised product advice, assisting with administrative tasks, and more. It’s a varied, exciting role that develops steadily over the course of your apprenticeship.

6. Working hours: 9am – 5:30pm
